Tim Bailey, one of Sydney's most recognisable faces, has signed on as an Ambassador for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

Tim is a journalist, television and radio presenter who has worked with Network TEN and 2Day-FM for the past 16 years. He is currently the weather presenter on TEN's First at Five News team in Sydney, a position he has held since 1997.

ISAF2011_AmbassadorHe has hosted various shows on Network TEN including NRG (surfing), Chilli Factor (extreme sport), The Big Breakfast (cartoon-kids), Airtime (basketball) and the Vodafone Beach Volleyball Tour. He has also covered the Commonwealth Games, six Melbourne Cups, Bathurst and the Indy Car Carnival.

Not foreign to Australian waters and the sport of sailing, he is a keen surfer and has competed in four Sydney to Hobart yacht races.

Bailey said that he is excited to be involved in a World Championships of such prestige and to help generate awareness about the biggest international sailing event of 2011.

"I'm proud and privileged to be setting sail with Perth 2011 and looking forward to the biggest sailing regatta Australia has ever seen," he said.

"Bring on the clearest of blue skies. Bring on favourable winds. Bring on the unique atmosphere of Australians chasing their Olympic dreams."

Perth 2011 Chief Operating Officer Darren Beazley said it was great to have one of the most dynamic, versatile and effervescent characters on Australian television join the Perth 2011 team.

"Tim brings an atmosphere to everything he is involved with and we're looking forward to his passion at Perth 2011," Beazley said.

"Tim's involvement will be wide-ranging from spreading the word in the state of New South Wales to sharing an insight to his profession and involvement in sailing with Perth 2011 members and special guests through the World Championships."

Tim Bailey (New South Wales) joins John Bertrand (Victoria), Jessica Watson (Queensland) and Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson (Western Australia) as Ambassadors for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.
